Relationships between the main parameters of safety valves

Operating pressure refers to the normal pressure that the valve body can withstand; under normal conditions it is able to handle instantaneous pressures up to 1.25 times the nominal pressure. The setting pressure is the pressure at which the valve opens – once this pressure is reached or exceeded, the safety valve will open. It is a value set by humans, but it should be within the range of the operating pressure. The activation pressure is the actual pressure at which the valve operates. Operating pressure > Setting pressure > Activation pressure

The set pressure is higher than the operating pressure but lower than the design pressure of the equipment. The set pressure, also known as the opening pressure, is an important parameter for the operation of a safety valve
