During the pressure testing process, gas at the same pressure is filled in both ends of the valve, then the valve is closed, and the pressure is increased on the other side. Here comes the question: Isn’t this considered operating under pressure? Is it permissible to do this?
This is the best approach, as it allows for a realistic simulation of actual on-site operations. However, valve manufacturers perform pressure-induced opening tests on valves to check whether they operate smoothly.
It comes down to whether it’s about strength or airtightness – these are different aspects. The API598 standard applies here; there are differences in terms of strength, low-pressure airtightness, high-pressure airtightness, and seal testing
The valve itself is a pressure-operated component, which is permissible, including operation at full pressure difference.
