Is this a valve or something else?
Judging from the photo, it is a pipe flame arrester. A flame arrester is a safety device used to prevent the flames of flammable gases and vapors of flammable liquids from spreading outward. When designing flame-arresting internals, regular fillers are designed based on the medium of different gas mixtures, the components of the gases, pressure drop, length-diameter ratio, and the number of elbows, in order to determine the MESG value and achieve a certain flame-arresting speed. When the flame enters the flame arrester, it is divided into many small flame streams by the regular flame-arresting elements. Due to heat transfer and the effects of the vessel walls, the incoming gas is cooled, preventing it from reaching the ignition temperature. Without this ignition temperature, combustion cannot occur, and as a result the flame streams are extinguished, thereby achieving the purpose of flame arrestion.
