Static bonding of flanges has always been a persistent problem at the installation site. For small-diameter bolts below M20, by pressing a custom-made terminal onto the yellow-green wire, it can be crimped directly using a nut. For bolts with a large diameter of M20 and above, it becomes more difficult; there are various methods used on site: (1) Some people use thick copper strips, cut into strips, which are then perforated and pressed onto the connection bolts ; (2) Some use flat steel bent into a U shape, which is then perforated and pressed onto the bolt ; (3) Some methods involve welding small bolts to the flange and then using crimping tools for compression bonding; however, welding bolts to the flange gives an unsightly appearance. Moreover, in many cases there are requirements regarding the material of the bolts, and this is especially true for the bolts used in welding the valve body, which end up looking even more unsightly ; (4) Some design institutes do not have specific requirements regarding static grounding. I’ve worked at several factories, and I’ve never seen static bonding done in a particularly good way. I wonder what requirements large factories have in this regard – are there any simple and effective methods that also result in an attractive appearance? We kindly ask experts in this field to provide technical explanations on this matter. Holes can be drilled and threaded in the flange; wire lugs can be pressed at both ends of the jumper cable, which are then secured with screws.
These days, metal wound gaskets are widely used as sealing gaskets. For pipelines carrying certain types of media, is it still necessary to use anti-static bonding straps? I haven’t conducted experiments in this area, but I suggest that the relevant parties carry out a test evaluation.
In metal wound gaskets, most of the metal rings do not come into contact with the flange; it is the non-metallic packing materials such as PTFE or graphite that are in direct contact with the flange. The part that is in actual contact with the flange are likely the flange’s connection bolts
