Both \"GB/T12224-2015 Steel Valves – General Requirements\" and \"GB/T12234-2007 ……Steel Gate Valves\" specify minimum wall thicknesses for valve bodies, and these values differ significantly. What are the differences in the minimum wall thicknesses specified in these two standards? Then, which standard is used to determine the minimum wall thickness for the domestically produced standard gate valves?
According to common understanding, specialized standards are of higher rank than general standards; therefore, GB/T12234 (gate valves) is of higher standard than GB/T12224 (general requirements). Manufacturers will design and produce products in accordance with GB/T12234, and inspections should also be conducted based on this standard.
Indeed, there are the same models with two different thicknesses; this should be specified when placing an order. The petrochemical industry generally follows GB/T12234, while the civil sector uses GB/T12224.
