If water has frozen outside a cast-iron valve, is it okay to pour hot water on it? The outdoor temperature is around minus six degrees.
As long as safety factors related to the environment and the medium inside the valve are not a concern, the use of an open flame is also acceptable. Freezing usually occurs due to water in the valve packing, as well as the cleanliness of the medium inside the valve. Baking over an open flame should be better than watering.
