Recently, the Beijing Aerospace Power Research Institute won bids for two projects related to large valves for pyrolysis gas in ethylene production facilities at Jilin Petrochemical and Guangxi Petrochemical, both part of China National Petroleum Corporation. The total value of these bids was nearly 50 million yuan, setting a new record for the number of bids won for 48-inch pyrolysis gas large valves. This win further breaks the market monopoly held by foreign manufacturers over large-diameter pyrolysis gas valves, enhances China’s ability to develop independent components for key equipment in ethylene production facilities. It also marks the first collaboration between the Beijing Aerospace Power Research Institute and an engineering design institute on pyrolysis gas valves for entire plants, laying a solid foundation for future cooperation in technology research and development, project implementation, and process package development.
The 60-inch extra-large diameter cracking gas valve for the Tianjin Nangang ethylene project is one of the key devices in the cracking furnace, and the performance of this valve directly affects the safety of ethylene cracking production. This valve has set a world record for the diameter of valves used in pyrolysis gas systems; its weight per valve is 47.5 tons, and its manufacturing and installation complexities are far greater than those of previous models. The R&D team has employed various innovative designs; building on traditional large-diameter pyrolysis gas valve technology, they have further improved the performance and service life of these products. By using a mechanism that links the main valve with the auxiliary valve, they ensure the safety of the pyrolysis furnace. At a production capacity of 200,000 tons per year, one 60-inch pyrolysis gas valve in a single furnace is equivalent in performance to two 48-inch pyrolysis gas valves in a dual-furnace pyrolyzer, thereby significantly reducing costs and improving reliability. It has provided strong support for the localization and internationalization of all equipment in the ethylene process package, meeting the needs for the construction of large-scale ethylene plants both domestically and abroad in the future, while maintaining China’s continued leadership in cracking furnace technology as well as its overall technological superiority on the international stage.
