Do standards such as ASME B16.11 apply to TUBE or PIPE?

I have a valve with a data sheet specifying 1/4” size and a socket weld connection; at first I thought it was a PIPE fitting, based on the socket weld interface dimensions specified in ASME B16.11. I was later told it was a TUBE tube. May I ask how to determine PIPE and TUBE from the data table? And does the ASME standard apply to both PIPE and TUBE types of pipes? Which standard should be consulted
