Recently, a new senior manager joined the team; he originally worked in the equipment sector but switched to working in process management over 10 years ago. During one meeting, when a case involving the activation of a safety valve was discussed, he suddenly asked whether the pressure had been set again after that safety valve activated I have been working with petrochemical equipment for over 10 years now, and the latest regulations regarding safety valves do not mention the need to reset the setting pressure after a safety valve operates (this applies to the 2006 version of the \"Regulations on Safety Supervision of Safety Valves\", the \"Regulations on Safety Supervision of Pressure Pipelines – Industrial Pipelines (TSG D0001-2009)\", and the \"TSG 21-2016 Regulations on Safety Supervision of Fixed Pressure Vessels\"). However, I vaguely remember that when I first started working with equipment, it was common practice to follow this approach; since everyone said so, there must have been some official documentation supporting it, but back then I was too naive to trace the origin of this practice. Therefore, I would like to ask fellow sailors if anyone knows of any document that explains the origin of this term?

Since the leader has mentioned it, remember not to be too persistent; it’s not good to hurt the leader’s feelings, especially with high-ranking leaders: lol

The set pressure for a safety valve is (0 – design pressure – setting pressure/start pressure); the key is to apply pressure until the safety valve activates. So, according to the manager’s instructions, what should be done? After taking off, the pressure must be set again.

It’s not about being overly strict; since the leader has raised it, if there’s no basis for an explanation, then even if you weren’t at fault, you still need to recheck it. Otherwise, you’ll face consequences later on
What’s worrying now is that the manager might not be aware of where those standards from back in the Year of the Monkey were kept; he could suddenly bring them up and criticize you, and you won’t be able to quickly find the relevant documents to provide an explanation. Does the safety valve need to be recalibrated after it trips? Spring-loaded safety valves are pressure relief devices that require stability during continuous operation; after they activate, it is necessary to check whether the pipeline pressure can be maintained at the level appropriate for normal operation Is there a leakage issue with the safety valve? If the above two problems do not exist, there is no need to recalibrate the set pressure within a calibration cycle.
