There needs to be a certain gap in the middle; I’m not sure what you mean
Full double-sided welding is sufficient, as long as the welds on the inside are proper.

Take a look at your own problems again. . . . Can I understand what it means?
There should be images; are they socket flanges or butt weld flanges?
Add a picture; there are gaps here, which might affect the structural strength. If custom-made non-standard flanges are designed, can these gaps be eliminated? Or is there any good way to handle it?

The gap you are referring to is the assembly gap between the flange and the pipe; this is determined by the structural design of the plate-type butt weld flange. Otherwise, how could they be assembled? It does not affect the strength of the flange. If you do not allow any gaps between the flange and the pipe, you can choose another type of pipe flange (such as a welded neck flange).
