PIPE 20# GB/T8163 PE SMLS HG/T20553(II) T=4mm – does the value T=4mm indicate that the thickness of the steel pipe is 4mm? Generally, the thickness is indicated as outer diameter * inner diameter or using SCH. Today I saw T=4mm and really have no idea what it means.
Damn it, can’t the design institute use more generic terms? It has to be expressed in this way
It was previously designed to be expressed using outer diameter*inner diameter or by SCH, and then submitted to the purchasing department. The purchasing department said it’s hard to give a price quote and requested to use the wall thickness instead.
Is it sure that tubes can be purchased this way? Even if the markings are not standard, at least two values should be provided for the outer diameter, inner diameter, and wall thickness; otherwise, how can anyone know what size tube you need to buy?

Generally, for American standard steel pipes, SCH is used to indicate the wall thickness and pressure. Many design institutes in the country operate in this way: even though national standard steel pipes are used, they insist on using American standard specifications to indicate the wall thickness. A few days ago, for an environmental protection project, the client’s purchase order specified American standard dimensions for the wall thickness; yet after the goods were shipped, they claimed that the design was incorrect and that national standard specifications should be used......

It has been made clear that t=4 refers to the wall thickness; sometimes overly precise wording makes procurement more difficult
It’s also a matter of thickness; each design firm has its own way of specifying this, and the regulations are too complicated. It’s unlikely to achieve uniformity, so one can only ask the other party more questions
