I would like to ask the experts: How is valve torque calculated? How to select an actuator based on valve torque? Are there any relevant standards that can be referred to?

Valve actuators are currently classified according to the industry in which they are used: in the power industry, gate valves and globe valves are commonly used, and electric actuators are employed there (with no requirements for explosion-proof safety). It is more suitable for situations where there is no instrument air on-site, the valves are installed in dispersed locations, and power is readily available. Pneumatic actuators: Suitable for the chemical industry, featuring centralized installation, explosion-proof and intrinsically safe operation, as well as simple maintenance (practically maintenance-free).

Thank you for your answers~ What I’m really more concerned about is this: for valves with small diameters and low pressures, it should be possible to operate them using a handwheel or handle. So what is the distinction between using such manual actuators and actuators such as pneumatic/electric ones that you mentioned? API 6D specifies that the maximum opening thrust applied to handwheels and wrenches should not exceed 80 lbf (360 N). How is this opening thrust calculated?

Whether a pneumatic valve is equipped with a manual mechanism (mechanical operation) depends on whether you need such a feature for that valve. For example, in the event of a power or gas supply failure (fault), the valve can be operated using a manual handwheel.
The valve torque varies from manufacturer to manufacturer; actuators that meet the required specifications should be used in conjunction with those valves
