Recently we manufactured one piece of equipment using carbon steel pipes with a DN200 diameter. The customer requested that these pipes be hot-dip galvanized. After they were galvanized and then assembled, leaks were detected at many of the sealing surfaces. I wonder if the sealing surfaces were covered by zinc during the galvanizing process, which led to poor sealing performance. What is the correct hot-dip galvanizing process for pipes, and how can the sealing surfaces be protected? Please provide some guidance. Thank you!
Deformation can easily occur at the hot-dip galvanized threads or on the flange sealing surfaces, but protective measures should be in place to avoid this; such measures are widely used these days. It can only be handled by professional manufacturers
1. Apply high-temperature grease to the sealing surface; 2. After galvanizing, the pipeline surface is processed with a water line again.
Thank you for your guidance. Second, the pipes that are sent out for galvanizing are already semi-finished products; they include pipe flanges, elbows, etc., and have already been welded together, so it should be quite difficult to process them further
There are specialized manufacturers that handle the processing of sealing water lines. My personal understanding: the flange stays fixed, and it’s the machined tool that moves, right?
