When the pressure pipeline is classified as GC1, can non-metallic pipelines still be used?
Since the pipeline classification of GC1 is being used, the design and selection of materials must comply with the requirements specified in Chapter 1 on materials of the standard TSG D0001-2006 \"Regulations for the Safety Supervision of Pressure Pipelines\"
In other words, I have a material that is classified as a pressure pipeline under GC1, but I want to use a non-metallic material; can I then bypass the requirements of TSG D0001 and not follow its rules for classifying pressure pipelines? ?
There are indeed a lack of regulations and standards in this area; if it is to be used in this way, the quality supervision agency would probably need to organize expert evaluations
In response to the question posed: 1. Article 4 of the \"TSG-D0001-2009 – Safety Technical Supervision Regulations for Pressure Pipelines – Industrial Pipelines\" specifies that non-metallic pipes are not covered by this standard; therefore, if non-metallic pipes are used, the classification system GC1 does not apply. 2. The Regulations on the Safety Supervision of Special Equipment define pressure pipelines as “tubular devices that use a certain pressure to transport gases or liquids. These include pipes in which the maximum operating pressure is 0.1 MPa (gauge pressure) or higher, for gases, liquefied gases, steam, or liquid media that are flammable, explosive, toxic, corrosive, and have a maximum operating temperature equal to or higher than their standard boiling point; such pipes also must have a nominal diameter of more than 25 mm.” It is clear that non-metallic pipes can also be considered pressure pipelines. In fact, there are special permits for non-metallic pipes, and my company holds such qualifications; large enterprises require these qualifications when issuing tenders. 3. Since non-metallic pipes can be pressure pipes, are there any standards specifically applicable to pressure pipes? The answer is no, but non-metallic pipes made from different materials have their own standards, such as GB/T 18998.1 \"Polyvinyl chloride chloride pipes for industrial use\" and others. These standards specify the required thickness of the pipes under various operating conditions. Domestic standards are generally based on ISO standards, ensuring high reliability; they also serve as a basis for design work in engineering firms. These standards also serve as the basis for issuing licenses for special equipment. 4. Generally, the nominal pressure of fully plastic pipes does not exceed 2.0 Mpa; it is usually 1.0 Mpa or 1.6 Mpa. The operating temperature generally does not exceed 120°C, except for polytetrafluoroethylene. The nominal pressure of steel-lined plastic or steel-reinforced plastic can be very high, approaching that of metals. I don’t know much about other non-metallic materials such as ceramics and glass; they are used relatively less as pipe materials and more in equipment.
