A valve is to be installed between the existing two flanges, with a span of the valve that is 20 mm greater than the distance between the flanges. Is it possible to install the valve by using a gasket made from metal plates? What are the regulations regarding the installation of related pressure pipelines? Please, expert, give me some guidance.
Given the presence of hazardous materials, it is best to avoid welding at the site in order to adjust the existing flange spacing; can the valve be installed by using shims instead? Are there any special arrangements or things to keep in mind?
I don’t know what type of gasket to use or what fluid is flowing. Some gaskets are thicker; loosen the brackets holding the pipes at both ends of the valve, and try tightening the bolts – 1 cm on each end should be sufficient. Do not use too many shims, as it can lead to leaks.
The medium is ammonia, which is prone to leakage. The processed thick gaskets are made from round steel. Thank you for the suggestions. I saw that there are thicker gaskets, with a maximum thickness of up to 10 mm. The spacing difference is 25mm.
Thickening is no problem; the rupture disc holder is essentially just a thick gasket, right?
