I posted this topic on a machining forum some time ago; now I think posting it here on the piping forum might reach more people who are interested. I would like to ask how this O-ring can be fitted into the area marked with the red circle? My O-ring can’t be stretched that big. . I need to seal liquid ammonia, and the O-ring is subject to a pressure of around 1 to 2 MPa. Could anyone recommend a suitable O-ring?
As long as it’s the standard mating size, it will definitely fit
Can’t fit in? There’s a chamfered slope; if that doesn’t work, just hit it with a hammer.
Based on the specifications of the O-ring, the manufacturer will provide recommended groove dimensions; as long as the drawings and tolerances are correct and assembly is carried out at normal temperatures, there should be no issue with fitting it in place. Assembling our combined seal is much more difficult than installing your single O-ring, but we managed to get it done. So there’s no need to worry about it not fitting.
The sealing ring is elastic; this is a shaft seal, and it’s sufficient to simply put it in place. For low temperatures, materials that can withstand low temperatures can be chosen.
I think you need to make a conical aid to place at the left end of the shaft, to make it easier.
It probably can’t be installed because the O-ring chosen is wrong. I’ll send you the standards for O-rings; check them and replace it
