Valves are used to control the flow of liquids and gases. Ball valves, gate valves, and globe valves are used to control the flow of liquids. These various types of valves are all used to create water pathways, so it is essential to understand these differences and their uses. Introduction to ball valves: Ball valves, made from durable components, possess high durability and can function perfectly even after being left unused for long periods of time. It has a sphere made of brass, stainless steel, or chromium-plated brass, embedded within the conduit. The top of the sphere is a lever that can only swing a quarter turn. When the horizontal plane is parallel to the pipe, the sphere allows water to flow. When the lever is perpendicular to the pipe, the solid ball will prevent the flow of water. The water flow is controlled by moving the joystick from an angle of 0 degrees to 90 degrees relative to the connected pipe. On the other hand, you can allow some water to flow through the pipe by keeping the lever between the two extremes, but the pipe may deform due to water pressure. The advantage of this valve is that you can open or close it easily and quickly. However, water will keep hitting the sides of the sphere and the pipe unless it is fully opened to guide the water. Introduction to globe valves: Globe valves are wheel-based valves that, when opened, reduce the flow rate of water through the pipe by means of a set of fixed ring seats located within a spherical body. A stop valve contains a spherical area that is divided into two halves by the opening that forms the valve seat. On this valve seat, a rotor that can control the flow of water or completely stop it can be used to tighten the plug. It is difficult to understand whether a stop valve is open or closed, especially when it is partially open. Furthermore, it cannot be operated with one hand like a ball valve. Introduction to gate valves: Gate valves are used to control the flow of liquids, and they are typically operated by turning a wheel to move the valve up and down. When the wheel is turned to lower the sluice, the water wheel reaches its lowest position, thereby blocking the flow of water. When the wheel is operated in the opposite direction, the shutter is in its highest position, allowing water to flow unobstructed. It is easy to determine the position of the gate valve by checking the rising stem that is part of it. If the valve stem rises and is visible, it indicates that the gate valve is open ; When the valve stem is not visible, it indicates that the gate valve is closed. Globe valves remain in contact with flowing water, making them highly susceptible to corrosion, which eventually leads to failure and rupture. Due to its slow operation, the chance of water hammer is minimal. It should be used under open or enclosed conditions, and if not properly secured, it may be damaged by water pressure and vibration.
