I heard about butterfly flanges for the first time today. Could everyone please tell me about their styles as well as the instructions for installation and use?
It is best to have the flanges specifically designed for butterfly valves supplied directly by the valve supplier, as this saves time, effort, and money; ordering them separately often results in discrepancies.
Bro, our factory has basically used PL flanges or SO flanges in the past, and it doesn’t seem to cause any problems, right? My pipeline uses water at 1.5 Mpa, but the valve supplier stated that a butterfly flange is required
You need to follow the supplier’s instructions; if they ask you to use butterflies, then use butterflies. Previously, when PL or SO was used, it was just lucky that no such issues arose; normally, if flanges are used instead of gaskets, leaks will occur.
The flanges designed for butterfly valves seem to have a larger sealing contact surface, and the welding method is slightly different.
Small diameters are okay, but for diameters over 250, venting can’t hold back the rubber ring. The flange designed for butterfly valves has a larger opening for welding the pipeline and a smaller opening for connecting the flexible butterfly valve
What problems might arise if ordinary flanges are used? 1. The dimensions of the flange and the butterfly valve? 2. Are the center distances between the flange and the butterfly valve different? ? 3. Will it affect the opening of the butterfly valve? ? ?
Socket weld flanges should be used, rather than butt weld flanges

When using ordinary flanges, the flange and the butterfly valve fitted to it may not fit perfectly together; the most obvious sign of this is that the outer diameters of the flanges on either side of the connection are different. It affects the appearance. 2. If the flange standards are the same, the center distance between the screw holes is usually appropriate, allowing for installation. 3. It will not affect the opening of the butterfly valve. Ordinary flanges have little impact on flanged butterfly valves [whose connection method is flange connection], but they have a greater effect on wafer-type butterfly valves, as this can lead to poor sealing at the connection points, resulting in leakage of the medium.
