For a pipeline spanning multiple zones, several spring supports are installed. In one of the zones, an archive must be created first; the springs for this zone have already been ordered. When adjusting the pipeline in other zones, it was found that the spring loads in the archived zone had changed. At this point, it is necessary to input the parameters of the archived springs as those of the purchased springs for simulation purposes. In the “Theoretical installation load” field within the predefined hanger data, the operating load of the archived springs should be entered; the stiffness value should be taken from the output of the spring selection program. I have a question: why is it that this value isn’t set as the theoretically calculated installation load derived from the selection process, but instead the operating load is entered? Please, experts, help me with this
The installation load is calculated based on the working load, spring deformation, and spring stiffness. By entering the proper working load, the software redistributes the forces acting on the sections between the fixed points, adjusts the forces at the points where no load is specified, and then determines the new spring deformation and installation load. If the input is the installation load, then the operating load and deformation are interrelated variables. The software would need to enumerate all possible values of the operating load and deformation; this makes programming quite complicated. Moreover, the time required for calculations also **increases significantly, and it may even lead to infinite loops. Therefore, this approach isn’t used at all.
