Bidding has been launched for two hydrogen transport pipeline projects undertaken by Sinopec Xinxing (Inner Mongolia): the West-to-East Hydrogen Transport Project and the Hydrogen Pipeline Network around Ordos

Recently, Sinopec Xinxing (Inner Mongolia) West Hydrogen to East Transmission New Energy Co., Ltd. issued a tender announcement related to the environmental impact assessment for the demonstration project of a hydrogen pipeline connecting Ulanqab in Inner Mongolia with the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region. The tender information states that this hydrogen pipeline demonstration project passes through five provincial-level administrative regions, including Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, Shanxi Province, Hebei Province, Beijing Municipality, and Tianjin Municipality. The total length of the pipeline is approximately 1,145 km, with diameters of DN457 and DN610. The designed transport capacity of the pipeline for the near term is 100,000 tons per year, while the planned capacity for the long term is 500,000 tons per year. In addition, Ordos in Inner Mongolia has also issued a tender announcement for the preparation of project proposals and feasibility study reports for the Hydrogen Energy Pipeline Network Project around Ordos. The tendering entity is Ordos Hydrogen Energy Investment Co., Ltd., and the pipeline network includes: (1) main lines and branch lines within the area surrounding Ordos ； (2) Shanghai Miao Economic Development Zone – Ningdong Energy and Chemical Branch Line ； (3) Qipanjing Industrial Park – Wuhai Low-Carbon Industrial Park Branch Line ； (4) Duguitala Industrial Park - Dengkou Industrial Park Branch Line ； (5) Nalin River Industrial Park – Yuheng Industrial Park branch line. Since 2023, China has successively launched several major pipeline hydrogen transport projects. Sinopec’s 1,000-kilometer hydrogen pipeline project between Beijing and Inner Mongolia is a landmark project in China’s hydrogen industry. With the launch of the tender for preliminary services for this project, it indicates that long-distance, large-scale hydrogen pipelines in China are gradually coming into existence. As these projects are gradually put into operation, it is expected that hydrogen transportation costs will be reduced and the development of the green hydrogen industry will accelerate.
