On June 22, the first batch of straight-seam submerged arc welded CO2 transport pipes exported by Sinopec was successfully manufactured at the Petrochemical Machinery Steel Pipe Branch. These pipes will be used in a CCUS project in Saudi Arabia, providing equipment support for international cooperation in green energy and demonstrating the potential of traditional oil and gas equipment manufacturers to expand into the field of green and low-carbon technologies. As a core component of the project’s carbon dioxide transportation pipeline network, the technical standards for these steel pipes are far higher than those for conventional oil and gas pipelines. Carbon dioxide media are corrosive and highly sensitive to changes in temperature and pressure. Moreover, to ensure the long-term safe operation of the system, higher requirements are placed on the comprehensive properties of steel pipes, such as strength, toughness, and welding quality.
