Our ion-exchange membrane caustic soda plant (with a production capacity of 50,000 tons per year) produces hydrogen, and we have acquired a new downstream customer who requires a very high purity level for the hydrogen – 99.999%. Is there any manufacturer that is capable of purifying hydrogen to such a high standard? Which design company designed it? Could you please provide their contact information? How is oxygen generated in hydrogen? How is oxygen removed from hydrogen? ? Deoxygenation is actually very simple: hydrogen reacts with oxygen to form water, and then it can be dried directly. This is the simplest process. The oxygen content in the high-purity hydrogen used in our production must be below 1 ppm, which is why we also have a hydrogen purification process.
I think it’s still produced by electrolysis. Although hydrogen is produced industrially by electrolyzing sodium chloride solutions, which yields hydrogen, chlorine, and sodium hydroxide, I think that since water electrolysis produces hydrogen and oxygen as well, it’s impossible to separate them completely in the solution; there must be some oxygen mixed in as well. I’m not exactly sure either, because the hydrogen we use is also supplied by the factory next door; it contains oxygen, and sometimes the concentration of that oxygen is quite high. Perhaps they haven’t managed to control the concentration of the sodium chloride solution they use in electrolysis.
