Can solid caustic be produced using 45% caustic soda, thereby bypassing the need for 50% caustic soda and producing solid caustic directly?
I find this kind of problem to be very strange. 45% liquid caustic is concentrated into a concentrated caustic solution that can be used to produce solid caustic; undoubtedly, it is only through the gradual concentration and loss of water from the liquid caustic that the alkali concentration can increase. How can you go directly from 45% to 55% or higher without passing through the 50% concentration? It makes no logical sense. Solid caustic soda is produced by increasing the concentration of liquid caustic soda of lower concentration through concentration. Although it does not go through the 50% liquid caustic soda stage separately, this concentration level must be attained during the concentration process in order to reach a higher concentration.
Theoretically, it’s possible, but the temperature needs to be very low; If it’s 50%, dissolution begins at around 10 degrees Celsius; even if you manage to produce solid alkali, it cannot be stored at room temperature.
There is no need for two steps; it’s not necessary to reach 50% in order to carry out evaporation and concentration.
