During the operation of the exhaust gas incineration system in the VCM unit of a PVC plant, the by-product hydrochloric acid turns black in color. What could be the possible reasons?
The exhaust gases can be recycled and reused, returning to the system for further reaction
It is possible that the exhaust gas was not burned completely; the carbon-containing substances were washed into hydrochloric acid after washing. It might also be that the temperature and residence time in the incinerator were insufficient
The composition of the VCM distillation off-gases is complex; substances such as acetylene and vinyl chloride can produce carbon black during combustion, and when this carbon black mixes into the by-product hydrochloric acid system, it causes the hydrochloric acid to turn black in color.
When the exhaust gases and light and heavy fraction waste liquids from VCM plants produced by the ethylene equilibrium oxychlorination process are sent to incinerators as well as quenching and absorption systems for treatment, the gases exiting the incinerators contain trace amounts of dust, which causes the by-product hydrochloric acid obtained through absorption to take on varying degrees of brown color. If the excess oxygen level at the outlet of the incinerator is appropriate, the by-produced hydrochloric acid will not turn black to such an extent.
