Our facility uses the sulfur-based acid production process, and we have a Roots blower. Recently, the fan has been making intermittent strange noises, like a sound of difficulty in breathing. When these noises occur, the electrical current sometimes rises and sometimes falls, with significant fluctuations, and the vibration also varies along with these noises. The fan outlet pressure will return to normal after the abnormal noise subsides. The cause cannot be found at the moment; please, experienced colleagues, help consider what might be the reason.
Is there a possibility that the gas being transported crystallizes inside the unit, or within the flow channels, resulting in insufficient suction power of the unit?
There are two aspects: first, it’s a matter of process-related issues; it is necessary to check whether there are any abnormalities in the process conditions before and after, such as whether the pressure is within normal parameters and if there have been any changes. It is also important to verify that the inlet filter, outlet pressure and flow rates, as well as the usage conditions specified by the user, meet the requirements of the equipment. Secondly, it could be mechanical; in the case of abnormal noises, it is necessary to determine whether they are caused by mechanical vibrations or by process-related issues. For reference.

In terms of the process, the pressure ratio in stage two of the converter, which relates to the wind pressure at the blower outlet, is slightly higher than that in stage one; this is caused by fouling of the catalyst in stage two, and the issue has been resolved. But it has reappeared recently

Unlike centrifugal fans, rotary vane fans operate on a forced-air delivery principle, and their air flow rate is generally stable. There are two possible explanations for what you described: either the fan is faulty, or there is a problem with the acid production system. It has little to do with the air inlet; such issues only occur when the air inlet of a centrifugal fan becomes blocked. Nowadays, few manufacturers use rotary vane fans – you can consider yourselves an exception
