According to Sinochem News, recently, the project to convert the 25 tons per hour boiler at Hongguang Company, which belongs to Gansu Yinguang Chemical Industry Group Co., Ltd. and is part of the North Chemical Research Institute Group under China North Industries Group Corporation, from burning coal to using gas was successfully completed in its trial operation phase. By adopting efficient low-nitrogen combustion technology and an automated control system, this project not only completely overcomes the bottleneck in steam supply that has long constrained production, but also achieves the environmental goals of cost reduction and improved efficiency. As a specialized fine chemicals company, Hongguang Company takes proactive steps to fulfill its environmental responsibilities by shutting down two coal-fired boilers and making every effort to advance the transition to clean energy through the replacement of coal with gas. During the trial operation of the project, the boiler was able to produce 23 tons of steam per hour at 92% load, eliminating the shortage in steam supply when the production line was operating at full capacity and providing strong support for continuous production. Compared to the complicated manual processes involved in traditional coal-fired boilers, such as coal preparation, ignition, air volume control, ash and slag removal, as well as desulfurization and denitrification, the newly installed gas-fired boiler systems enable automated control of key parameters such as gas supply, temperature, pressure, and air volume. This reduces the workload of operators significantly and improves the working environment. At the same time, this project uses new types of efficient low-nitrogen burners as well as mechanical and electrical equipment with an energy efficiency level of at least grade 2; the fan motors achieve grade 1 energy efficiency. By properly recovering and utilizing the high- and low-temperature heat energy in the system, the thermal efficiency of the boiler is increased by 30%. During the project construction, Hongguang Company adhered to cost-saving approaches and relied on its own efforts; apart from the main boiler, all supporting facilities such as utility systems, control instruments, online monitoring equipment, and those obtained through the reuse of existing assets were developed internally. This approach enabled savings of over 1 million yuan in construction costs, with just the reuse of assets such as cables and cable trays saving more than 200,000 yuan. It is reported that the newly installed natural gas boilers feature a high degree of automation. They not only enable precise energy supply across multiple lines, thereby reducing operational costs and safety risks, but also significantly lessen the environmental pressure associated with waste gas emissions. This helps to fully utilize the capacity of existing production facilities, laying a solid foundation for the company’s continuous, stable, and large-scale production.
