Release of the Accreditation Scheme for Product Carbon Footprint Verification Agencies

Recently, with the approval of the State Administration for Market Regulation (**ACCA**), the China National Accreditation Service for Conformity Assessment (CNAS) issued and implemented the \"Accreditation Scheme for Organizations Conducting Product Carbon Footprint Assessments (Trial)\\" (hereinafter referred to as the \"Scheme\") in order to further regulate the activities of organizations that conduct product carbon footprint assessments and improve the quality of the data related to product carbon footprints. 　　The Plan sets out the basic qualifications of organizations conducting product carbon footprint assessments, the capabilities of their personnel, the standards for such assessment activities, and the procedures for obtaining recognition. It is applicable to CNAS’s process of recognizing organizations that carry out product carbon footprint assessments, and it will come into effect on June 15, 2026. 　　It is reported that CNAS has been steadily advancing recognition work in the field of carbon peak and carbon neutrality; it has established a recognition system for greenhouse gas verification and auditing agencies, and has recognized a total of 49 such agencies, covering key industries such as civil aviation, manufacturing, power generation, steel, aluminum, and mining. Currently, in the management of carbon emission verification agencies, relevant authorities are increasingly relying on CNAS accreditation results. This encourages these agencies to provide enterprises with accurate and reliable verification services, thereby continuously improving the accuracy of carbon emission data and offering strong support for government regulation and the green transformation of enterprises. 　　Next, the State Administration for Market Regulation (**Certification and Accreditation Administration**) will organize CNAS to carry out training sessions aimed at promoting the accreditation system for organizations that conduct carbon footprint assessments of products. This will help to advance accreditation efforts in this field, improve the capabilities of such organizations, and support key industries in accelerating their transition to a low-carbon economy.
