I manufacture level gauges. A customer inquired about our magnetic flap level gauges for measuring the liquid level in LNG storage tanks. However, the temperature and pressure values he provided do not meet the basic conditions required for natural gas liquefaction. Why is this so?
2 possibilities: (1) The conditions provided by the party asking for a quote are incorrect; (2) Since LNG is not a pure substance but rather a multi-component mixture, its phase equilibrium conditions vary depending on the components; therefore, applying fixed temperature and pressure conditions may lead to incorrect judgments. If desired, detailed composition information along with temperature and pressure conditions can be provided; the specific reason can then be determined through phase equilibrium calculations.
Generally, LNG storage tanks are stored at low temperatures and normal pressure, with a relative pressure ranging from 15 to 26 kPa and a temperature of around -160°C. However, most use servo level gauges or radar level gauges; I’ve never heard of magnetic level gauges being used
What should be mentioned are small tanks with a capacity of several dozen cubic meters, vacuum-jacketed containers, used in small gasification stations or small portable liquefaction plant stations. It is not the same concept as the LNG storage tanks of the single-containment or full-containment type you mentioned.

I’ve never seen anyone use magnetic flip boards; most people use differential pressure types
