I built a liquid nitrogen vaporization station for my own use two years ago; the medium temperature is -196°C, and PIR is used as the insulation material. Recently, the insulation efficiency has significantly declined – some valves and tees have accumulated a lot of frost on them. Under normal operation, the safety valve triggers once every two or three days. Is there any insulation material or method that allows for the replacement of this insulation material on-site without shutting down the system?
PIR may not be able to provide insulation without stopping work; you can simply add another layer of insulation over the areas where heat is leaking.
Rigid insulation materials cannot be replaced while the system is in operation. Currently, there are flexible insulation materials available on the market (the most popular ones being Ales from Germany and K-FLEX from Italy), which allow for the removal of old insulation material and the installation of new one without shutting down the system. Users such as CNPC, Sinopec, China Resources, Honghua Gas, Huaqi Houpu, Chuan Kong, Hangyang, and Air Liquide are all using these materials. However, no matter what insulation material is used, working without stopping the operation will definitely require more labor than working after stopping the operation.
