Precautions for operating the alkylation unit in summer: Protect against lightning strikes; carefully check all the lightning protection and grounding systems of the unit. At the same time, conduct a leak test on the vent points at the top of towers and vessels, as well as on the pressure gauge connections. Pay attention to inspecting the equipment and pipelines that have not been in use since production began; high temperatures can cause the volume of stored materials to expand, increasing the pressure on pipelines and equipment, and leading to leaks of liquefied gas at the flange connections. It is recommended to relieve pressure from pipelines and sealed equipment that contain materials.
There are not many specific things to be mindful of regarding the alkylation unit during the high-temperature and thunderstormy weather in summer. What might be overlooked is the waste acid tanks used in this unit; these tanks are equipped with vent valves. In summer, due to the high temperatures, more liquefied gas and hydrocarbons evaporate from the waste acid, resulting in an unpleasant odor. Moreover, thunderstorms can easily cause ignition, so extra attention is required.

Always prioritize safety; in the hot summer with frequent thunderstorms, be careful of overheating, overpressure, and fires caused by lightning strikes. When handling alkylated sulfates, keep the following points in mind: 1. Workers wear light clothing in summer, and they are reluctant to wear full protective gear when working outdoors due to the heat. There are many acidic and alkaline environments in the production process, so be careful to prevent splashes from causing injuries. 2. The entire reaction process requires cooling; in summer, if the amount of cooling agent used is insufficient, the temperature of the circulating water rises, so it is necessary to reduce the dosage appropriately during production. 3. For the sphere tank used to hold the overhead gas from the dehydrogenation unit, it is important to maintain a low liquid level at all times. If the pressure rises rapidly, immediately activate the spraying system or release pressure to another sphere tank; if control proves difficult, using a flare for pressure relief may be necessary. 4. All loading and unloading operations for liquefied petroleum gas vehicles and fuel vehicles are prohibited during thunderstorms; such operations can only be carried out after the storm has passed. 5. Are the biannual lightning and static electricity protection inspections being carried out properly? If it hasn’t been done, contact the meteorological bureau to have it done before summer arrives. 6. Develop emergency plans and conduct drills for sudden power outages of the equipment. (It’s quite important to be specific and detailed about how each operator should proceed; simplicity and clarity are key.) For practical things, there’s no need to pursue grandiose aesthetics
In hot weather, there is a risk of overheating and overpressure; reduce usage. During thunderstorms, lightning can cause power outages – have emergency plans in place.
