What do refinery workers do? How do you answer when people from other industries ask what you do for work?

After 6 years in this industry, I’m still working as an operator in ethylene cracking. Every time friends or relatives and neighbors ask about it when I go home, I find it difficult to explain what this job involves. Every time it’s introduced like this: What company do you work for? “Sinopec is a state-owned enterprise; it produces gasoline, engine oil, lubricants that are used in everyday life, as well as chemical raw materials such as ethylene, propylene, and butadiene, which are used to manufacture plastics and rubber products for daily use. ” What do you do for work? “Frontline workers are those who operate the machines to ensure smooth production, as well as those who make daily adjustments. ” I’d like to ask everyone how they introduce their work to those who know nothing about this industry (Is there anything that can be understood to some extent by those who have hardly read at all?) I hope that colleagues and seniors from Sinopec, CNPC, and CNOOC can discuss this and share how they used to describe their work when they were working at the grassroots level as operators

To be honest, there’s no need to boast about oneself; one knows whether they are good or not. It’s the same wherever you work – all crows are black, and all snakes bite. Don’t treat yourself as too special, but don’t undervalue yourself either. As long as you can earn money there, just remember to work for yourself. Even if you’re a boss, you’ll still face difficulties; do your job properly and manage your relationships well
Stay calm; it has nothing to do with being real or not. Chemical industry workers are not like those in common occupations such as teachers, doctors, welders, construction workers, etc., whose job duties are immediately apparent to others. Moreover, due to my limited knowledge and skills, I am unable to provide a clear description of the job role of an ethylene plant operator. By asking this question, I hope to find out how to express it in such a way that others can understand what kind of work is involved in a factory and what the duties of this position entail. Every time I give a brief overview of my work, people are still confused and have no idea what I do.
In social division of labor, there are only different occupations; there is no distinction between high and low, noble or humble! If you pay too much attention to certain things, you will overlook many wonderful things in life. If you observe carefully and savor it thoughtfully! You’ll find that working in the chemical industry is really tough!
Just like during the external demolition work, when people asked me what I did for a job, I replied that I was in charge of cleaning at a chemical plant. Hahaha
