On May 21, Clariant announced the launch of its latest propane dehydrogenation catalyst, CATOFIN 312. This new type of catalyst not only exhibits higher selectivity, but its service life is also expected to be extended by up to 20%. Thanks to improved productivity, CATOFIN 312 offers highly attractive value-added solutions for customers seeking to maximize returns; a propane dehydrogenation unit with a standard annual capacity of 600,000 tons can generate an additional revenue of up to 140 million RMB (20 million US dollars) over the catalyst’s service life. CATOFIN is a world-leading catalyst technology used for the production of olefins such as propylene, isobutylene, and butene/butadiene. Thanks to its excellent productivity and high stability, the CATOFIN technology has been adopted in numerous propane and isobutane dehydrogenation units around the world. The CATOFIN process combines Clariant’s customized catalysts and heat-generating materials (HGM) with Lummus’ advanced technology, and has become one of the fastest-growing technologies for propylene production.
