Major equipment repairs, technical upgrades, disassembly, assembly, and relocation often require the disassembly and reinstallation of equipment foundations, steel platforms, and even building structures, as well as redesigns that involve things like breaking beams, making openings, and moving columns – all of which are major modifications. In each workshop and unit across the factory, there is usually one or two pieces of equipment; it’s not practical to ask a design firm to handle such tasks, so one has to rely on their own capabilities. Yet it’s impossible for an individual to have expertise in multiple fields such as civil engineering, architecture, and steel structure design. What should be done in such situations? The external dimensions can be measured by oneself, but the most important issue is strength. Conducting strength design checks is quite complicated. For example, when a reactor needs to be replaced after it becomes obsolete, or when a filter press needs to be replaced, does it really mean that a design firm must be hired every time a piece of equipment is replaced? Then what’s the point of keeping these people in the equipment department?
No one here has calculated the intensity either; I just go ahead and do it. I guess no one thinks about such things that much
Provide the design firm with the renovation design.
We all make small modifications on our own, and then submit a process change request to the equipment technology department.
You give it to the equipment technology department, but they don’t have the expertise either; they specialize in equipment, not in civil engineering, architecture, or steel structure design
We all make small adjustments and implement process changes on our own.
Are you in the same unit as the one on the fourth floor?
No, we are a small company that produces just one product, with an annual output value of around 400 million
In this case, it’s necessary to hire a design firm to handle the design work; if you try to do it on your own, you’ll have to deal with legal issues if problems arise
