Under what circumstances is a top shaft oil pump installed in large units? Or should it be set regardless of circumstances?
You mean a shaft-mounted pump, right? This is based on the customer’s request, but it is not recommended as it is quite troublesome. An independent oil pump is still the better choice.
The design is determined based on the size of the rotor; generally, a lifting device is used when the nominal diameter of the rotor is 1 meter or more, in order to prevent wear of the bearing shells at the moment of startup.
It is necessary to install such a system for rotors with a large mass. The rotor of our factory’s AV71-13 axial flow compressor weighs 13.57 tons, so a lift oil pump has been installed; however, the rotor of the other backup unit, the AV56-9, weighs 5.38 tons, and no such system has been installed for it.

Generally, when the rotor is heavy, a jacking oil pump is used, which is beneficial for the bearings.

The load on the bearing bush exceeds its allowable starting load, so a jacking oil pump is required. The allowable load of bearing shells is related to the design dimensions of various manufacturers and the material of the bearing shells.
