:) As the title suggests, the piston rings are wearing out too quickly in this polypropylene compressor, whose service life is roughly one month. After removing it, it was found that all the piston rings were worn unevenly, with the wear occurring at the openings of the piston rings. Have any other users encountered a similar issue?
It’s probably a problem with the piston ring itself. The opening directions of normal piston rings are at different angles to each other; if all those angles are worn out, then it’s likely a problem with the piston rings
Check the coaxiality of the piston rod and the cylinder block; also, verify whether the piston rings were installed correctly.
Is the clearance at the piston ring opening small or not?
Check whether the bearing clearance is normal? Is the clearance around the piston at the four points on its skirt normal after installation? Is the clearance between the connecting rod bearing and the piston rod normal? You’re using a discharge gas compressor, right? We are using a labyrinth compressor now
Check if the new, unused piston rings are deformed
The cylinder diameter is 310; an opening of 7-8 mm should be sufficient. The average operating temperature is 70 degrees (for the piston rod)
Logically, in the case of quality issues, the areas that wear out shouldn’t be in the same location. I also suspect that it might be due to an excessively small axial clearance in the ring groove, which causes jamming, or perhaps it’s because the cylinder and piston rod are not properly aligned coaxially
The edges from all angles aren’t worn; only the open areas are damaged
