Why are the foundation elevations of compressors in many compressor plants so high? Is it just for piping and maintenance purposes?
This is probably the design convention of different design institutes. For reciprocating machines, the design convention at Luoyang Institute is to arrange components at as low a level as possible. Are you referring to centrifugal compressors? In our company, centrifuges are generally installed on higher platforms. Additionally, both the reciprocators and centrifuges in our company are placed outdoors.
It’s because of the steam turbine, right? Electric drive should be casual.
Based on my personal understanding, I’m not sure about turbofans; but in the case of condensing turbines, a cooler is installed below them, along with a condensate pump. To ensure proper operation of the pump, a certain height needs to be maintained
Centrifuges are equipped with turbines, and many of these turbines are of the condensing type; below them there are surface coolers and condensate pumps. Additionally, the inlets and outlets of compressors are mostly oriented downward
Reciprocating machines exert a large overturning moment on the foundation, and the placement of the exhaust buffer requires raising the axis of the main machine. Screw compressors may be required due to the structural needs of the exhaust silencer. The centrifuge just needs to be placed in the right location, I guess. The civil engineering costs are a bit high, but the layout is spacious, the site is much neater, and maintenance is also easier.
