Is an ITCC necessary for a steam turbine?
It should be necessary; I’ve seen almost all the projects that require it, as well as the 505 speed regulator.
ITCC (Integrated Turbine Compressor Control Technique) is an integrated control system for turbine compressors. It is applied in the control systems of turbines driven compressors, and requires the following basic control functions: 1. Steam turbine speed control – regulation of the turbine’s speed. 2. Steam turbine overspeed protection – protection against excessive turbine speeds. 3. Compressor Anti-Surge control – prevention of surge phenomena in the compressor unit. 4. Performance Control and monitoring of technical parameters of the main and auxiliary machines – control of the unit’s performance as well as monitoring of the process parameters of the main and auxiliary machines. 5. Monitoring of turbine shaft position, temperature, and vibration – tracking of bearing displacement, temperature, and vibration in the turbine unit. 6. Sequencing Control – control based on a predetermined sequence of operations. 7. Interlock logic control for the turbine and the unit – logical control mechanisms to ensure safe operation of the turbine and related equipment. ITCC enables control over the compressor’s performance, control of inlet pressure, as well as decoupled control during surge conditions. The tank level control loop and other process control loops are also part of the ITCC. They simultaneously provide decoupling between process and anti-surge control. Protection for compressor/turbine auxiliary systems. ITCC provides continuous monitoring and protection for compressor/turbine auxiliary systems, and issues alarms or triggers shutdowns. Sequential control and start-stop: The ITCC contains several programs that are used to assist in starting the compressor and turbine. One of the programs causes the turbine to increase its speed automatically to the warm-up speed; once that speed is reached, the turbine’s speed is increased to the rated speed based on the conditions of the compressor. Another program can cause the turbine unit to pass through the critical speed region. This starting process can gain the operator more time to carry out other important tasks.
