What causes this issue with the reducer lubricant?

The reducer on the mixer has been in use for 2.5 years, and this is the first time it has been disassembled. What could be the cause of the lubricating oil (220 gear oil) in this condition? Please ask fellow sailors to help analyze it

To be honest, with this lubricant having been in use for over 2 years, that’s actually quite good. Strictly speaking, the lubricant here requires testing of various parameters over 3 months to ensure it performs well. If the lubricant turns black, it is usually due to oxidation; another cause could be an excessive amount of metal particles. There are quite a few possible reasons. If it is emulsified, the lubricant appears white in color; in severe cases, it is obvious at a glance that water is present. I think this is caused by prolonged use; generally, we need to replace it regularly here, especially when the test results are not satisfactory.
