Firstly, the composition of lubricating oil is: base oil + additives, with almost no water in its components. Therefore, moisture is mainly introduced due to external pollution; the most common sources of pollution are moisture in humid air and leaks in the condensate pipes of turbines. There are three forms of water present in oil: free water, dissolved water, and emulsified water. Free water is the most obvious separation between oil and water ； Dissolved water is relatively difficult to observe ； Emulsified water shows obvious oil emulsification and a whitened color. Regardless of the form in which water exists, it undermines the lubrication effect, especially by destroying the oil film formed between the friction surfaces. Once this oil film is damaged, dry friction occurs within the equipment, leading to overheating and vibration; this in turn can cause damage to the cylinder liners and tooth breakage in gears, among other equipment failures.
