On mechanical seals, the inlet and outlet are sometimes marked as IN/OUT, and sometimes as B0, B1, BO, BI – which one represents the inlet and which the outlet? Is BO an abbreviation for B OUT?
Buffer/barrier inlet is abbreviated as BI or LBI; it refers to the inlet for the buffer/isolation fluid. Buffer/barrier outlet is abbreviated as BO or LBO; it refers to the outlet for the buffer/isolation fluid

Thank you. I went to the site specifically to take a look. Two out of the 3 gear pumps were installed incorrectly; that is, B0 and BI were installed wrongly, resulting in leaks. It’s installed correctly; there are no leaks.
BI/BO are the inlet and outlet for the sealing fluid. QI/QO refer to the inlet and outlet of cooling water, while the flushing ports are marked either as C or F. The leak detection port is marked as D; follow the drawings if available – whatever is indicated in the drawings shall prevail
Alphabetical codes for the relevant general identifiers: sealant inlet (BI), sealant outlet (BO), cooling water inlet (CI), cooling water outlet (CO), flushing fluid inlet (FI), flushing fluid outlet (FO), quenching port (Q), drain port (D), exhaust port (V), bearing oil filling port (G).
Typical sealing drawings provide detailed specifications, so it’s advisable to examine the drawings carefully first.
