Recently, I encountered a supplier who installed cooling fans and fan shrouds on the coupling side of the bearing housing for an OH2 pump (with a power of 55 KW and a medium temperature of 69°C). Is it okay to do this? Does it meet the requirements of API610? My understanding is that bearing box cooling should be employed when the temperature of the medium is too high, with cooling water being suitable for dissipating heat from the bearing box. Solve!
Section 6.1.17 of API610 specifies that the cooling method shall be determined by the manufacturer through consultation between the buyer and the seller, with fan cooling generally being the preferred option. Therefore, this item complies with the requirements of API610; however, it is relatively rare in practice on OH2 pumps, and moreover, the medium temperature and shaft power are not high.

If a Sulzer pump is chosen, it features a patented design, has a large track record of successful use, so there should be no major issues ; If other brand pumps are chosen, please consider carefully.
This method can be used. However, its widespread use is not recommended; it is a temporary fix due to the supplier’s products failing to meet technical standards.
