The unit is equipped with a gear pump; the fluid used is paraffin oil, and the temperature is around 100°C. The fluid is relatively clean. At first, the flow rate and pressure were satisfactory, but after some time, both the flow rate and pressure decreased to varying degrees. No significant wear was found upon inspection – what could be the cause?
The sulfur content in the paraffin oil is relatively high, which may cause corrosion to the gears; there is definitely a change in the meshing clearance. The original poster can arrange for a detailed measurement and inspection. Regarding the material, it can be checked to see if it is resistant to S corrosion
There is a pressure return valve on the gear pump, which can be adjusted; if there is no response in terms of pressure, the pump needs to be disassembled – this step should be checked first.
Wear definitely has an impact; it’s just a matter of the extent of that impact
First, check whether the inlet filter is clogged; then examine whether the return pipeline or return valve is functioning properly; next, check for any impurities inside the pump; finally, consider the gear clearance if necessary
Check the clearance between the gear (shaft) and the pump chamber. When the gap exceeds the limit, the pressure for pressure relief decreases, as does the flow rate.
First check if the channel is blocked, then check for wear
It is normal for the flow rate of a gear pump to decrease after being used for some time.
After wearing out for a while, power consumption also decreases
Measure the gap between the gears, as well as the gap between the gears and the housing; these gaps should be larger
