This post was last edited by Qingfeng Huanying on 2018-1-25 08:12. Our plant has newly installed a circulating hydrogen compressor with an inlet pressure of 3.11 MPa and an outlet pressure of 3.75 MPa; its rated flow rate is 83,300 Nm3/H. What type of compressor should be chosen?
A pressure of 30 kilograms, a flow rate of 50,000 to 100,000 units, with hydrogen as the low-density medium – a reciprocating compressor will suffice
The pressure ratio is less than 1.2; the unit for flow rate isn’t specified. If it’s in m3/h, then there’s 1400 m3/min under that pressure condition. An axial flow compressor is a good option, and Shaanxi Gas Turbine Co. excels in this area. A dry gas seal is necessary for sealing purposes.
I just checked; the pressure ratio is the ratio of the outlet pressure to the inlet pressure, in terms of absolute pressure
Centrifugal compressors should be fine; large reciprocating compressors work as well too, but reciprocating compressors have many wear-prone parts and require frequent maintenance, so they are generally chosen for smaller volumes.
1. Centrifugal compressor MCL351 or reciprocating compressor 2D20. Note that this parameter is not within the scope of efficiency for axial flow compressors. 2. Advantages of centrifugal compressors: balanced operation, reliable performance, high efficiency, few friction components, which results in lower demand for spare parts as well as reduced maintenance costs and labor needs. Disadvantages: high price, roughly equivalent to the cost of two reciprocating compressors; although they don’t require frequent maintenance, major repairs still take several months, meaning that each maintenance task takes a long time. Advantages of reciprocating compressors: their price is much lower compared to centrifugal compressors. Since most manufacturers use a one-in-use and one-backup configuration, maintaining one compressor does not affect the normal operation of the entire system. Disadvantages: as mentioned earlier, there are many vulnerable components, requiring frequent maintenance; thus, although the cost of each compressor itself is low, the expenses related to spare parts are relatively high
Centrifugal compressors are suitable; they are more expensive. Using reciprocating compressors to achieve this pressure ratio is a waste
2D20 probably didn’t take into account the operating conditions under which the safety valve activates
I would also appreciate it if an expert could provide some detailed guidance; thank you
