The hanging basket evaporator is an improvement over the central circulation tube evaporator. Its heating chamber is like a hanging basket, suspended at the bottom of the evaporator housing, and can be removed from the top for easy cleaning and replacement. The heating medium enters the heating chamber through a central steam pipe, and there is an annular gap channel between the outer wall of the heating chamber and the inner wall of the evaporator shell, which functions similarly to a central circulation pipe. During operation, the solution descends along the annular gap and rises along the heating tube, creating a natural circulation. The cross-sectional area of the annular gap is generally about 100–150% of the total area of the heating tube, resulting in a high solution circulation speed (about 1–1.5 m/s). Since it is the cooler boiling liquid that comes into contact with the evaporator shell, its heat loss is low. Suspension basket evaporators are suitable for evaporating solutions that tend to form scale or crystals. Its disadvantage is its complex structure, and a large amount of equipment materials are required per unit of heat transfer surface.
