There is a heat exchanger with a diameter of DN300, using tubes with an outer diameter of 325 as the shell. The tube sheet flanges are of the PL type in accordance with the HG/T20592 standard, the flange material is Q235B, and the shell material is 20. Is surface inspection required for the Class C joints between this shell and the tube sheet?
This standard is not mandatory and is determined by the design itself.
Can Q235B be used as the flange material? There seem to be many restrictions on the use of Q235B at 150.

It depends on the pressure and medium; it is determined by the designer, with no fixed rules.
The requirements for non-destructive testing of the welded joints of pressure vessels are clearly specified in 3.2.10.2.2.4 of the Pressure Vessel Code, and are also clearly outlined in 10.4 of that same code; the person in question can follow these standard specifications. The original poster did not specify the relevant design parameters and the properties of the materials used. Based on what was stated, I suspect that the requirements of the codes and standards may not be met. However, the Code for Fixed Containers states in Article 9 that \"welded joints for which the designer deems surface inspection necessary\" are required, and Article J of 150 specifies that \"fitting fillet welds that require inspection as per the design documents\" must be addressed. The weld mentioned by the poster is the fillet weld between the equipment flange and the cylinder; in my opinion, it’s still a good idea to conduct a surface inspection.
