Today, I read the magazine \"Pressure Vessels\", which contained a paper titled \"Sealing and Leakage Analysis of Large-Diameter Liner Flanges\". The main topic of the paper was related to the use of liner flanges and gaskets in large-diameter equipment. The paper concluded as follows: 1. For large-diameter long-neck butt-welded flanges (DN≥2500), it is recommended to use a surfacing structure for the sealing surfaces; 2. For the selection of gasket materials for large-diameter equipment flanges, since it is difficult to manufacture metal rings for wave-patterned gaskets, wound gaskets are recommended. Regarding these two conclusions, for the first one, this is indeed what we did in our design; generally, a liner ring structure is not recommended for high temperatures, medium to high pressures, or in vacuum conditions. But as for the second point, I hadn’t paid attention to it before – I’m not sure what maximum diameter such wave-shaped gaskets can achieve Is it truly true, as stated in the text, that when the diameter is large (DN≥2500), the splicing of metal rings cannot ensure the sealing performance of the wave-shaped gasket? Articles of this kind can only be used as a reference and should not be taken entirely at face value; both the manufacturing of large-diameter toothed gaskets and wound gaskets presents difficulties. In our design specifications, we stipulate that for DN > 1500, a surfacing-welded sealing surface is to be used (a gasket ring structure was also used in the past, and leaks occurred); for DN 2000 and above, wound gaskets are to be used, rather than wave-shaped gaskets. For reference.
