1. High resistance in the furnace tubes is usually caused by internal scaling or coking. 2. The safety implications of high tube resistance include two aspects: 2.1. The internal pressure upstream of the furnace tubes increases; whether this poses a risk depends on the pressure rating of the tubes – if the rating is high enough, they can withstand such pressure. 2.2. When scaling or coking occurs inside the furnace tubes, the heat transfer efficiency of the medium decreases, the thermal resistance increases, and the temperature of the metal walls rises to approach the temperature of the furnace chamber. Different furnace tube materials have their respective maximum allowable operating temperatures and oxidation resistance limits. As the temperature of the metal rises, the allowable stress decreases; when the stress on the furnace tube exceeds its yield strength at high temperatures, damage increases and eventually rupture occurs. Therefore, when a significant increase in tube resistance is detected, it is necessary to check the wall temperature of the furnace tube, and if it approaches or reaches the limit values, it is advisable to shut down the furnace for maintenance
