I have a question regarding biomass gasification: How much air is required to completely burn 1 kg of dry wood? Thank you!
Wood with different chemical compositions requires different amounts of air to burn. Therefore, to know the exact figures, it is necessary to have an analysis of the elemental composition of the wood; at least, the contents of carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen, and sulfur in the fuel need to be known. Then calculate using the formula. For a certain type of wood we worked on in the past, the elemental composition was C=40.49%; H=4.97%; S=0.05%; O=31.47%; N=0.9%; Cl=0.02%. Contains M=20%; A=2.1%. The theoretical air volume is 3.87 m³/kg of fuel.
The data can be obtained according to Section 3.2, Calculation of Air Volume, in Chapter 3 of the \"Thermal Calculation Methods for Industrial Boilers with Laminar Combustion and Fluidized Bed Combustion\". According to Chapter 6, Part II of the \"Boiler Calculation Manual (Volume I)\", Section 2 on burners for boilers, Tables 6-7 and 6-8 provide the calculations for the amount of air required for combustion.
Thank you! I originally wanted to quickly use existing data, but since I couldn’t wait for my friend’s reply, I had to do the calculations using the known parameters. My wood data: Car: 45.72%, Har: 5.32%, Oar: 36.95%, Nar: 0.53%, Sar: 0.018%, Mar: 10%. To calculate the complete combustion theory, the standard volume of air at absolute dry conditions required is 4.24 m3/kg of wood! It is similar to your data, which basically confirms the reliability of the figures! Thank you again!
