The question is: Are there any requirements regarding the starting position and setting of the azimuth? Specifically, is 0° of the azimuth angle on the left or right side horizontally (we are familiar with the left or right side as the starting angle in everyday work; it can also refer to the vertical direction)? Then should the orientation be set clockwise or counterclockwise? Taking a vertical tower device in top view as an example. When I first graduated, I worked in the workshop, loading materials into towers, and helped my supervisor draw diagrams for material distribution. I asked my supervisor about this, and he said it was part of the tradition. At that time, the orientation angles of several devices were set differently.

Our office is exactly the opposite of the one on the 2nd floor. It increases clockwise from 0° on the left, and 0° is also 360°.
I can’t remember where I read it: it should be a counterclockwise rotation starting from the right, similar to the YX axis rotating around the origin. In some places, the N direction is specified first.
We define 0 degrees as the horizontal left side, and then label them in clockwise order.
It would be best to be able to find the specific source
During the design renewal process, experts from the Chemical Equipment Association did not raise this issue. I think it’s fine as long as it can be expressed clearly; it would be best if the source could be found.
It is specified in this standard. In a project, the notation for the orientation of pipe openings should be consistent.

The “N” marker indicates the coordinate diagram used during equipment installation, serving to show the direction in which the equipment should be installed on site. The diagram of the device’s outlet orientation is closely related to the coordinate diagram; it is required that the starting angle and orientation of these diagrams be identical, without any errors. To be clear, I agree with this. Then, whether to set the angle counterclockwise or clockwise is said to be due to the right-hand rule or the left-hand rule, but I have never been able to find a source for any standard or guideline. But when using drawing software, I wonder if everyone has noticed that in AutoCAD or other 3D software such as CATIA, UG, Inventor, etc., the angles all have a default direction. Taking AutoCAD as an example, the starting angle is on the right side horizontally, with the angle increasing counterclockwise. This strictly reflects the right-hand rule. Of course, this relates to drawing; when comparing the two, regarding the orientation angle set by the device, I tend to agree with what the original poster said.
