Hello everyone. The company has currently taken on a project for designing some silos, with a diameter of 2100 mm and a cylinder height of 4500 mm; including the conical shell, the total height is approximately 9500 mm. The problem now is that, taking into account the setup of the weighing module, the owner insists that we use 3 ear mounts. Since devices with large diameters all use four or more ear mounts, we are very hesitant and concerned about the safety of the device. I hope everyone will discuss it. (Note: According to hg/t20583, the specified number of ear seats is 700; three or two ear seats are allowed provided this number is 700 or less.)
It’s of course possible to calculate using three ear seats. In addition to checking the strength and stiffness of the ear seat itself, the bending stress at the cylinder section is the main factor that needs to be considered. And it is often the bending stress at the cylinder section that proves to be too much. The first method is to increase the wall thickness of the cylinder, thereby raising the bending moment capacity of the cylinder at the ear seat. The second method is to add rigid rings to increase the bending moment capacity of the cylinder at the ear seat; or both methods can be used together.

Why not use a ring seat? Three units can also be used to calculate the local stresses based on AD2000
Could it be considered to use a support in the form of a rigid ring?
Check the bearing strength and the local stress on the bearing pad; as long as both are satisfactory, it’s okay! Too many silos with load-bearing capacity were built
If the calculation for a single support fails, then the only option is to use a rigid ring~!
